Project Head

I’m currently working on Yummiest Bytes. During the time that I was applying for this project I thought that we’ll actually be selling food. But in reality we’ll be selling stall space for those who want to sell foods. After I found that out my energy level for the project lowered. I was kind of disappointed. I actually kind of wanted to make pastries and sell it. The project description is very deceiving.

Anyway my enthusiasm is quite back. I’m looking for concessionaires right now. I would really like it if Auntie Anne’s would participate and Taters. Though I’m very doubtful about Taters cause they sell popcorn and I don’t think a lot of people but popcorn midday. Popcorn has always been associated to movies and it’s kind of hard to think about it outside that context or whatever.

This is going to be fun. Hopefully. I really want a little more CompSAt involvement in this project aside from organizing the event. So something like a bake sale. I mean what are the volunteers for anyway.

DSLR or Laptop

So I’m going to be 18 in August. Je vais avoir 18 ans. I won’t be having a party unlike my other friends. First because it’s a hassle to plan a party and second because it’s costly.  Third because I think that debuts are superficial and a little bit fake. I’ve been to some debuts over the year and it’s basically like a dream as well. For one night everything revolves around you. The people are basically there for you for that night. They’re there to entertain you, celebrate you, and reminisce about you. Sometimes they tend to make it emotional and it seems just like a one big show.

Anyway recently I’m getting envious because of that show. It’s just that almost all of my high school and grade school friends are having one (some small scale, some big). I just feel sad sometimes that I don’t get to experience that. But then again partying and being the center of attention has never been my scene. And it is quite uncomfortable.

So instead of a party we decided that my parents should just get me an awesome present. By awesome I mean something expensive. During my normal birthdays I’d ask for a book and if this was a normal birthday I would’ve asked for the “Hunger Games” Trilogy. Because I refuse to read it from an ebook since the story seems to be really good. So initially I was supposed to get a laptop. I don’t own a laptop but my family does own 2 laptops. Which is weird cause I’m a CS major and it’s basically all about computers and I don’t even have a portable one.

I remember before that I don’t really like laptops cause they’re quite of a hassle. Although now it’s very handy because almost everything school-related is computerized. And I’m not always at home with my computer. AND our computer is getting REALLY OLD and outdated. Which is really why I want a laptop so that I can play Sims 3 on it cause I can’t on our computer. Most of the parts like it’s video card and ram stuff it’s hard disks are low or something. I don’t really know how to describe it. I’m not too good with the technical terms when it comes to computers. So the real reason why I want a laptop now is because I want to play the sims 3. Other than that I think having a laptop is a waste of money for my parents. It’s heavy and it gets really hot and its screen is  small and it has lame speakers.

Before asking for a laptop I spent a lot of time debating what to ask for. I really wanted to get a DSLR but it seems like a laptop is best to ask for because of my course (and sims 3).  So now that I’m getting a DSLR I kind of feeling half-hearted about it.  Getting a DSLR will need maintenance in some way. Like other than buying the DSLR I would still need to buy different kinds of lenses and I don’t know maybe other accessories for the DSLR. So in other words getting it would be really pricey and I don’t want to ask that much from my parents since we have a financial situation. Getting a laptop is like a one time big time spending.

Anyway getting a DSLR would be awesome cause I’ll finally be able to practice and develop my photography skills. And since I’m part of Compress that would really help a lot with documenting.

Currently I’m trying to narrow down my preference. I think I might go with Nikon. But I’m not sure I haven’t seen the prices yet. DSLRs are really pricey I feel bad about asking for one. Ugh. This is why I wanted a laptop instead. It’s just around 400-600 usd but with DSLRs they’re around 1000 usd and above. Plus you still have to buy lenses for the DSLR.
